Part 1: The Struggle With Fear is Real

Jan 27, 2019    Jason Taylor

Conversation starter. Start light and fun conversation in your group about the series topic.
•Talk about a fear each has had to overcome and how they felt after getting through it. (Fears can be anything: public speaking, squishing a spider, or even coming to church for the first time.)
Contemplate. Ask questions to get your group thinking about these principles.
•Read 1 Kings 18:38; and 19:2-5. How does your group believe such fear and depression could have overtaken someone who has faith so great that he could call down fire from heaven?
•Read 2 Timothy 1:7. Where does your group believe a Spirit of fear comes from? How do they counteract it in their personal lives?
Contribute. Ask questions that create personal openness in your group.
•What is your biggest fear when it comes to taking the step of faith God is asking of you? If you are comfortable in your walk of faith, what will it take to get you into a position of uncomfortable growth in your walk with God this week?
Cry out to God. Pray intensely for your group on the topic.
Father, we know that You didn’t give us a Spirit of fear but we still have moments of fear and doubt. Help us to grow in Your Spirit with power, love, and self-discipline. We want to trust You in every situation that comes our way. Thank You for filling us with Your Spirit so we can walk in faith every day. It is in the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
Commit to change. What’s a new area to grow with the Lord?
•I commit to memorizing, by next week’s group, II Timothy 1:7 “For God did not give you a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
